The Roles:
The cloud offering from Neo4j is called Aura and we are now looking to expand two of our Aura platform teams with more skilled persons. Depending on your background and interests in what you would like to work with, we will get you into the right team.
The two teams called Aura Infrastructure and Aura Enablement (Developer Experience) consist of in total 12 engineers based in both Sweden and in the UK.
The experience and skills within the teams is quite broad, we have engineers both from an Ops background as well as engineers from a pure Software Development background.
Working with Cloud Infrastructure
“Provide the core infrastructure that Aura is running on”
Within the Aura Infrastructure team, the focus and responsibility is to design, build, manage and improve the core Cloud and Kubernetes infrastructure and its components.
Since Aura as of today is running more than 350 Kubernetes clusters in production, we need to continuously improve how the core infrastructure is managed. We are transitioning into a phase where the management of all Kubernetes clusters will be done through a custom Kubernetes Operator.
With Infrastructure, it is all about providing the infrastructure that runs on-top of Kubernetes, such as the Cluster and Node Pool Autoscaling, Logging, Monitoring, Tracing and Chaos Engineering.
- Building the Kubernetes platform using Kubernetes services provided by cloud providers (GKE, EKS, AKS)
- Handling day-to-day operations of the platform
- Enhancing the platform to improve its operational characteristics
- Enhancing the infrastructure such as Logging (Stackdriver, Loki), Monitoring (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana), Tracing (Stackdriver, Grafana Tempo), Chaos Engineering (Gremlin)
- Load, scaling and robustness testing of the platform
Working with Developer Experience
“Make sense of Kubernetes for other Engineers”
The Aura Enablement team has the focus and responsibility is to design, build and improve the Developer Experience within Aura, the focus is both Aura and all other Engineering teams at Neo4j, however the main focus is at Aura teams.
With Developer Experience we want to build self-service capabilities and enable engineers to do what they need to do without relying on others to help them out. With this, we will reduce cognitive overhead and therefore accelerate the delivery of applications and the pace at which they produce business value.
This is often referred to as the golden path or the paved road.
What You'll Do:
- Developing and improving the build and ship part of “you own it, you run it”.
- Integrate GitHub Codespaces into Aura development
- Work with ArgoCD and build the future of how we deliver software to production.
- Work with Backstage and our internal developer portal.
- Work on Component Excellence and how we measure quality of our components and motive and drive component improvements.
- Build and improve tooling to enable engineers, for example:
- Scaffolding, make it easier to create components
- Provide testing frameworks to make it easier to test components
- Provide a better Continuous Delivery platform with Argo Rollouts to enable testing in production
Work on and improve the Kubernetes as a Control-Plane, to enable engineers to control all of their resources through Kubernetes management lifecycles.
